Support is Superb, but Self Confidence is Essential May 25, 2012

On Wednesday I told the masses (via facebook), but I hadn’t heard from two of the people I respected most, so this morning I texted them. Of course, I was nervous about what they had to say – they’ve been trying to help me get a “normal” job for years – but that’s where the other part of this post’s title comes in.
Even though I respect them and value their opinions (whether I follow them or not), before I sent them word about my career change I determined that it almost didn’t matter what they said. As the title hints at, support is great, but when you have to do what you know is right, you better believe in yourself!
Thankfully, one of them is on board, even though they are worried for me (I’d have to wonder about our relationship if they didn’t) they believe I know what I’m doing and support my efforts. The other one, of course they’re worried too, but I guess we’ll have to see how this affects things.

I don’t even know who Neil Gaiman is, I have no idea what he’s written, but wow is this speech good!
New Laptop Came Today! May 24, 2012

Day 1 – Find out that laptop will be arriving on a day when no one would be home. Don’t trust feral cats (and certain neighbors), so called and requested another delivery date – the next day.
Day 2 – There is someone at the house nearly the entire day except for two hours in the late afternoon – of course they come then, but I learn that they wouldn’t have left it the first day without a signature. Sigh. They leave a note that they’ll try again the next day between 2-5 pm.
Day 3 – It finally comes! At exactly 4:53 pm. At least they did come in the allotted time frame.
I pulled it out of the box and even though it’s bigger than my old laptop, it’s lighter. Surprisingly lighter. That’s good for my bad shoulder, but I hope it isn’t cheap, wimpy stuff. So far I’m liking it though, but that’s not counting that I haven’t even turned it on yet.
Singing: Brainstorming Business Cards is Fun to Do! :D May 23, 2012

Yep, I’ve been having fun brainstorming business card ideas. Yesterday I drew for hours coming up with a bunch of them. I had loads of fun. There are a ton of really cool business cards out there, including origami ones and some fun clear ones with pictures of things like mustaches that you can hold up to your friends!
Just for random information, I’ve learned that most people may collect your business card (mostly to be polite, or because they really are interested at least at that moment) but within a matter of days it’s in the trash. It helps a ton if the card has an actual purpose (like a coupon) or is extra unique (like folding it into a rubber band cannon).
I’m thinking when I have a final design I’ll have to post it up for everyone to gander at. Maybe I’ll post the other ideas too to get your imaginations flowing.
Tell Boss – Check May 22, 2012

Aaaaand the cat’s out of the bag. I just told the big boss. I suddenly feel like this is really happening, and I am suddenly, inexplicably, slightly dizzy. Strange. Now to tell the family.
They’re not making this easy May 22, 2012

Learned this morning that the Office Manager is on vacation until Thursday (yeah, it’s sad that I don’t even know when she’s gone), so I guess I’ll have to tell the big boss, and since he’s about as elusive as trying to catch a dragonfly in Nevada, this isn’t going to be easy.
On a good note, I’ve been working on the thumbnail/mockup of my first book and I now have the Cover page done and the Title page almost done too. I must admit that drawing convertibles is kind of fun. Note to self: work on my typography.
Welcome to your new life! May I take your order? May 21, 2012

Yes, I’d like an order of stress with a side of freaking out topped with utter excitement. Thanks.
Translation? I’m in the process of jumping off the deep end, quitting my day job and working on my books full-time. Yeah. Insane. I know. Don’t try to talk me out of it – I’ve already done that plenty myself. I’ve made up my mind and that’s that!
To answer a few questions:
- Why in the…?! @.o
Cause I’ve finally realized I eat, sleep, breath stories (among other reasons that are too personal)
- Sooooooo, what about income?
Good q. I was hoping to go on a cruise this year, but oh well. Luckily my expenses are currently low and since I don’t have a family to take care of I’m okay right now.
I would like to eventually sell stuff on etsy or CafePress/Zazzle or somewhere. The question is what in the world would I sell?! Updates on that later.
- Um, you really think you can do this?
If you’re asking this, you don’t know me very well do you. My IRL buddies have shocked me with the amount of support and encouragement; and yes, I know without a fraction of a doubt that I can do this. – Please see my deviantArt portfolio if you don’t believe me.
- Seriously you can’t be serious!
That’s what I keep asking myself, but yes, I’m seriously serious about doing this. I’ve made up my mind, I ordered a new laptop, and I would have given my notice today but the office manager (who currently sort-of counts as a boss right now) isn’t here today.
Now, since all good authors have a blog I’m going to use this one for the time being – at least until I sort out the business end of this adventure.
Thanks for joining me on this bold adventure to strange new worlds,
- Sindy
VacancyComics.com Now Has a CafePress Shop! March 31, 2009

Woohoo! I now have a CafePress shop for my Vacancy Comics! It only has one item (a cute little kids shirt), but it’s a start, and it’s really cute. I’ll be adding more stuff later.
Check it out – http://www.cafepress.com/vacancycomics
I’m also considering opening an Etsy shop (probably not associated with Vacancy Comics) before too long (I hope).
Chibi Ambrosia! Kawaii! >.< March 31, 2009

Okay, so you might (or might not) know about my Vacancy Comics (at VacancyComics.com), but I’m also working on a new comic strip called Fruit Salad Agency. The main character is Agent Ambrosia, and I just made a chibi version of her! I put it on deviantArt if you’d like to take a look – http://sindy-chan.deviantart.com/art/Chibi-Ambrosia-116424681. I think it turned out pretty cute.
I also put it on my facebook profile. I had recently gotten an account and was needing a profile picture, but I’m not that much of a photographer (even when I am, I don’t tend to photograph myself). A few people suggested I put up a piece of my artwork. I had just barely drawn up my Chibi Ambrosia, and since I had modeled her mostly after myself, it was perfect. Yep, it worked pretty good and I got a few great comments on it.
